Grey Horton Produce CSA

Our family-owned farm is finally ready to offer a bountiful Summer/Fall crop for CSA members. Acquired through homestead papers signed July 4, 1849, Morgan’s Landing Farm has come a long way. Recently revamped with water-saving methods employed and an expansion of farmable property, the farm is ready to take on a new CSA style commitment. Managed by Grey Horton, who completed  studies in horticulture through OSU and U of MN, we are glad to see that the Farm is up and running once again for the first time in over a decade. Grey has worked tirelessly to till, irrigate, plant, cover, weed, pollinate and plan the crop season and we are glad to see our family name back in the Portland Farmer’s Markets and local restaurants.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

By joining into a CSA as a shareholder, you agree to pay up front for 18 weeks of produce delivery to a hub within a few miles of your home. Every week, I will harvest for my shareholders and deliver a labeled bin that participants will agree to reuse the next week. By paying up front, the farmer is able to prepare for the next season, acquire seeds, repair tools and manage farm obligations with the support of a core clientele base that shares the risk of the farming endeavor. In return, members will receive fresh, local and sustainably harvested produce at a low cost and will be included in the greater Grey Horton Produce family.

WHY CSA?

Currently, you can find Grey Horton produce in St. John’s Farmer’s Market, Beaverton Farmer’s Market and a few smaller markets and restaurants around town. We are now seeking a CSA arrangement to help enable us to keep a continuous crop rotation and become a year-round facility.

We realize that in order to keep up with the CSA model, we will need to remain sustainability-oriented in all of our farming endeavors. This means that we will be aware of all inputs and keep within the tradition of minimally impactful agriculture. Because this aligns with our existing vision, we believe that a CSA will provide a superb product to the community while helping us build out our facility.

With your membership fee, our infrastructure will be vastly improved. The first twenty shares will allow us to double our cold storage for pre-market storage and triple our hoop-house protected field so that we can continue to harvest through the colder months of the year.

By participating in the Grey Horton Produce CSA, you are becoming a part of our farming family. We invite you to come and see our work in progress and participate as you see fit. Feel free to email us to arrange a farm tour, get a crop schedule, or join a work party. Drop us a line at greyhorton@gmail.com
